Parking is a sore spot in the very small city I work in.
It’s overpriced, poorly maintained, and terribly regulated. Today is worse than usual.
Here are the signs they’ve put up this morning over a 3 block stretch, in an area with very little parking :
54 continuous hours? Must be a big deal
Here is a (stock photo of a) pay station next to the sings that people are happily still pumping money into.
FEEED MEEEE
Here are all the fucks no one gives for their tiny paper signs (some on 18" road cones)
And here is the super important maintenance that will take 2 and a half days
Crack sealing.
It took them less time to do a block than it did for me to write this. What the hell are the other 53 hours for?
Not pictured are the many tickets the parking authority was leaving on cars all morning.
Also, no tow trucks yet, which is somehow merciful.

I was so confused why there was French on there, until I looked up where you are...

Yes, we’re rife with Francophiles, but mostly on the weekends.

The lot at my work is town-owned 2-hour parking. They ticket viciously. Overtime tickets are $25 each, so if I can’t get out to move my car every two hours I could concievably rack up $100 in parking tickets per day. All the nearby street parking is ticketed hourly, and the nearest free lot is a 25 minute walk away.
All the shops that use this lot have gone to the town with petitions to get ticket exemption for employees via a sticker or something but the town refuses to budge because they make so much money off of us.

In other news, Burlington is a bilingual city? Who knew?

Modern revenue generation for small municipalities is a scary thing. They avoid tax increases at all costs, then hammer on people just trying to work.
Here, the cost per hour went up 50% two years ago, along with the enforcement window going up by 4 hours.
Now buildings with emplyee lots are leasing out their spaces to a private company (rather than letting employees use their tags at all hours). The private company meters from 6pm-6am, and has the city’s backing to issue tickets. All while the city owned parking decks are crumbling from decades of deferred maintenance.
It’s madness.

I work in the [pictured] building across from Murder Mart & Mr. Mikes and didn’t even know this was going on but it doesn’t surprise me because of the crap they pulled when redoing the So Winooski sidewalk late last year. Protip: the top deck of the parking garage behind my building is free parking for the moment, entrance is the same as the court parking lot

Why’s it in French as well? Do you get a lot of people from Quebec parking there?

I know that the town obviously doesn't care, but shouldn't they, I dunno, disable the kiosk and put a message on it saying there's no parking in that area? Seriously, what are you supposed to do if there's no other parking?

YES
That’s the most infuriating part. There is no reporting of parking outages (the website lists holidays only). SO if you park there, and are unsure, the kiosk should give you the answer. Instead it just takes your money.

This time last year an overtime ticket was just $15.
